Local visibility starts with real-world accuracy

A local business should show its real name, address or service area, hours, categories and contact details the same way everywhere. Google Business Profile information has to reflect how the business actually operates. Keyword-stuffed names and invented locations break Google's guidelines and erode trust with customers. For hands-on help with listings, see Google Business Profile consulting.

A note on names

Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in 2021. The tool is the same; only the name changed.

Build useful local landing pages

A city page should carry distinct service information, coverage details, local constraints, original photos where possible and answers to questions that matter in that place. Swapping the city name in a template is not enough. Write each page for people who can genuinely buy the service there.

Reviews and reputation

  • Ask for honest reviews without incentives or review gating
  • Reply constructively and never publish private customer details
  • Treat recurring complaints as operational feedback
  • Remember that review counts alone do not prove service quality

Track outcomes by market

Measure profile interactions, calls, qualified leads, bookings and landing page conversions for each area you serve. Treat ranking checks with care, because map results change with proximity, device, query and time of day.

Frequently asked questions

Does adding more service areas guarantee more visibility?

No. Eligibility and proximity still matter, and listed service areas are no substitute for real operations.

Should keywords be added to a business name?

Only if they are genuinely part of the real-world business name and comply with Google's rules.

Do local businesses need separate city pages?

Only where there is real local demand and enough unique, accurate content to justify each page.
